She was a communicant of St. Paul's church and was widely known by many friends. Surviving are her husband; three sons, Lawrence V. and John B. Searor, this city, and James Maybee of Buffalo; three daughters, Mrs. Charles Sawyer. Mrs. Samuel Lackey and Mrs. George Smith; one sister, Mrs. John Lewis, Oswego; one brother, William Poucher, of Syracuse, and several grandchildren. Funeral will be held Monday morning from Dain Brothers parlors at 9 o'clock and at St. Paul's church at 9:30 o'clock.8 |

Mrs. Mabee was a woman of deep religious faith who cared passionately about her fellow human beings and demonstrated that in many ways throughout her life. She was a caring listening post to family, friends, neighbors and anyone who needed her. She had a special love for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a devoted wife to her late husband for over 60 years. In her years of good health, she was an active participant in every aspect of her church. She was a member of East Ridge United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Charles Mabee; parents, Lawrence and Mary Higdon; two brothers, William Higdon and Lawrence Higdon; and one sister, Aldean Higdon. Survivors include her son, Dale Mabee and wife, Peggy Mabee, of Chattanooga; granddaughter, Carla Johnston and husband, David, of Chattanooga; grandson, Chris Mabee, of Chattanooga; great-granddaughter, Emma Johnston; great-grandson, Hunter Johnston; and three sisters, Elizabeth Martin, of Chattanooga, Joyce Young, of Trenton Ga., and Marianne Ann McCroskey, of Chattanooga. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist with the Rev. David Brown officiating. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.3 |

She had been in failing health one year. Born in Deer Creek township Oct. 16, 1868, she was a daughter of William and Rhoda Hanon Sweezy. She married Marshall Mabee in Deer Creek March 28, 1887. He died there Feb 28, 1938. Funeral services for Mrs Mabee will be held at her residence in Deer Creek at1 pm Friday and at 1:30 pm Friday at Deer Creek Baptist church. The Rev J Huber Dixon will officiate. Burial will be I Mt Zion cemetery. Surviving are the following sons and daughters: Mrs Carrie Kennedy, Deer Creek; William E. Other survivors include two daughters, Janet Rassi, Morton, and Katherine Rubley, Paducah, Ky; two brothers, Chester, East Peoria, and Stanley, Pekin; one sister Launa Miller, Carson, Wash; two stepdaughters, Sharon Golden, Pekin, and Susan Paul, Chicago; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren, and two step great-grandchildren. Four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Mr Mabee, who had lived in the Mackinaw area since 1938, was a retired electrician and a member of Local 314 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was employed by the Pekin Abstract & Title Co. He was a member of the Deer Creek Baptist Church.14 |
