Funeral services will be held at the Valley Junction Christian church Friday afternoon. Burial will be in Glendale cemetery.12

oObit17 May 1941  On 17 May 1941 at Des Moines, Iowa, the obituary of Gomer Mabie read: Services for Gomer Mabie, 45, of 837 Nineteenth st, who was fatally injured Wednesday in an accident at the Shuler Coal Co mine near Waukee, Ia, will be today at Newton's Funeral Home, with burial at Colfax, Ia.
Mabie, a mule driver in the mine, was pinned to the wall by a car that jumped the track, members of the family said. He died at Mercy Hospital at 3 a.m. Thursday.

Her home was at Knoxville.
Last rites were held at St Anthony's church at Knoxville and burial was at Oskaloosa.
Surviving are two sons, W E Mabie of Williamsburg, and John Mabie of Springfield, Ill; one daughter, Mrs Eugene Speed of Knoxville; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two sisters an a brother.12

"A tavern owner, Jonas Mabie, 52, was shot and killed tonight, and police said the dead man's widow, Jane, 34, admitted the shooting.
States's Attorney General George Coutrakon of Sangamon County said no charges have been placed against Mrs Mabie.
Coutrakon said Mrs Mabie related that Jonas came home intoxicated and began abusing her. She went to a bureau, got a .32 caliber revolver, and shot once, Coutrakon said.
Police said Mrs Mabie complained to them previously about Mabie's ill-treatment of her."

He was of the Methodist faith. He was a member of VFW Post 4763, American Legion Post 759, Eagles Aerie 437 and Horseshoe Club. He was a basketball coach at Raymond Jr. High and a referee.
Survivors: daughter, Joan (husband, Gary) Ori of Chatham; two sons, Jim (wife, Beverly) Mabie of Chatham and Ed (wife, Theresa) Mabie of Auburn; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Joan (husband, Charlie) Bohles of Springfield; brother, Gomer (wife, Margaret Ann) Mabie of Springfield; three nieces; and two nephews.

Also surviving are one daughter, Linda (Doug) Daniels of Springfield; one granddaughter McKinzie Daniels, and 2 step granddaughters, Megan Daniels and Ashley Kil; one brother-in-law, Gomer (Margie) Mabie of Springfield; one sister-in-law Roberta Mabie of Springfield, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Lou Hesson.
Charles was a U.S. Army veteran serving during WWII where he served in the Middle Eastern Theater and received one silver and one bronze battle star. He was a lifelong resident of Springfield and retired as a bookbinder with the Illinois State Journal Printing Company. He was of the Christian faith and was a founding member of the Rod and Reel Club. He was inducted in to the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the 1940 Feitshans High School Basketball team and enjoyed spending time with his family.3

Funeral services for Robert "Bob" Mabie will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City. Pastor LaVonne Kaasa of Floyd Grace and West St. Charles United Methodist churches will officiate. Internment will be at a later date in Sunnyside Memory Gardens.
Friends may call at Hauser Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday. Visitation will continue Monday an hour prior to the service at the church.
