Virginia, always known as Jinny to her friends, was a gracious lady to everyone. She enjoyed gathering with friends and family, was an avid bridge player, loved to dance and whistle 1940's swing music. In her life, she lived in all four corners of America - Centralia, Washington, New York City, Charlotte, North Carolina, and her most favorite, southern California. As a young woman, Jinny loved to swim and ride hoses. She was married in 1944 to Gerard LaMay, her best dancing partner and father to her two daughters, Suzanne and Judith. Gerard passed away in 1987, and after seven years as a widow, she met and and married Ray Mabey, her late in life love, with whom she shared nearly ten years, before Ray's passing in 2005. She leaves her two daughters, seven grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. She also shared a special bond with Janet Dwyer, whom she always called her third daughter. In her last years, she made many friends among the staff and residents at Braswell's Chateau Villa in Redlands, California, where she was lovingly cared for to her end.
A memorial for Virginia will be held on Sunday, May 5, from 3 to 5 pm, in the Recreation Room at Oasis Palms Estates, 201 S Pennsylvia Avenue, San Bernardino, CA. Flowers are respectfully declined , and donation may be made on her behalf to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.2
