Rockie was involved in several clubs and organizations. He was a past Master at Bartonville's Masonic Lodge (twice). He was a member of the Limestone American Legion Post 979. He served as Bartonville Police & Fire Commissioner for 25 years. He coached his son, a few sons-in-law and lots of other Bartonville boys in the Limestone Junior Baseball League. He also advocated on behalf of several homeowners as a member of the Oak Grove Fire Protection Board. He loved playing softball and managing a team in Bartonville's Senior Slow Pitch league. One of Rockie's favorite things was being with his entire family, especially around a table playing games. Cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside committal services will be in Maple Ridge Cemetery in Mapleton, IL.2 |

He was born in Kennan on Aug. 8, 1944 to George and Dorothy (Minett) Mabie). He attended Kennan schools and graduated from Phillips High School. He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country from 1965 to 1967. When discharged, he moved to Bartonville, Ill. and began working at Keystone Steel and Wire. Bob loved being around family and was known as U.B. to the nieces and nephews. In 1973, Bob married Jackie Peterson of Westboro, and they had two sons together. They later divorced. Bob retired in 2001 after 31-1/2 years at Keystone and moved back to Wisconsin to be with Jackie, his sons and grandkids. He loved to fish along the mill pond, walk five miles daily, enjoyed coffee at McDonald's, making people smile and talking to people. Bob is lovingly survived by Jackie Mabie; sons, Bobby J. (Clover) Mabie and Christopher G. (Jessica) Mabie, both of Medford, and Brad (Alexandra) Peterson of Wausau; 10 grandchildren, Zek, Ambernette, Alex, Sebastian, Harley, Erik, Nicole, Brandy, Brent and Bianca. He is further survived by three sisters, Shirley Merrick of Milwaukee, Mary (Fred) Sewell of Bartonville and Helen (Don) Zimmerman of Westboro; two brothers, Jim (Barb) Mabie and Mike Mabie, both of Kennan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom (Phyllis) Mabie of Mayville and Rich (Darlene Blackwell) Mabie of Kennan. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be given to the family for future designation. Raised on a farm, he grew up with his siblings learning good work ethics. During his younger years he spent his free time fishing the Jump River with his buddies. After graduating high school, he left home for a short time to work at a taconite mine in Northern MN. After returning home, he enlisted in the Army, stationed in California for 2 years as a medic. He loved music. He was talented as a singer and guitar player and spent many nights making music with his family. In 1959, he married Joyce Mabie and took over the family farm. They had 2 children, Woodene and Joel. After his divorce, he owned and operated the Winter Inn (now Happy Daze) for a short time. He bought his final home just down the road from where he was born. He was a well- known carpenter and mason throughout the area. He loved his work and took pride in giving people what they needed, working even at age 80 roofing a house. Art loved the Lord and tried to live his life in his service every day. His strong faith was an inspiration to all that knew him. He was always close to his siblings, children, son-in-law and grandchildren. There was never doubt of his love and pride for each of them. He was a humble, talented, smart and generous man who will be missed. A celebration of life will be held at a later date and will be announced. He is survived by his daughter, Woodene (Tom) Stevens of Hawkins, WI, his son, Joel Winter of Sheldon, WI, sister Agnes Wudel of Phillips, WI, brothers Ralph (Janet) of Lynchburg, Tennessee, Ron (Mary) of Boyceville, WI, Rick (Judy) of Medford, WI, his grandsons Jonathan (Koren) Stevens, Jesse Stevens (Alesha Williamson) and great grandchildren, Connor Stevens, Emma Stevens and Zayden and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother George and his brother-in-law Kenneth Wudel.4 |
