oObit*12 March 1897  On 12 March 1897 the obituary of Mary Cross read: Death of Mary Cross Mabee, widow of James , died March 10, 1897, in Fairfield, Michigan, aged 87 years, 6 months and 29 days. She was born in Vermont, and married James when she was 17. She was the mother of 9 children, six of whom were alive when James died. Five years after James' death, she moved to Jackson, Michigan, later moving to Lenawee county. She was predeceased by a son, J. C. Mabee, and survived by four daughters: Mary J. Mabee, Mrs. J. F. Maxson, Mrs. S. R. Rickel, and Mrs. A. Stout.10 
Burial She was buried at Oakwood Cemetery, Adrian, Lenawee County, Michigan. Inscription "Mother, Mary Mabee; born Oct 7, 1809; died May 6, 1894."11
