He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nancy, his daughter, Gail Flynn, son-in-law, Dennis Flynn, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a future date. She was preceded in death by her father, Dale F. Maybee; and her brother, Walter Maybee.5

Several years ago he was a candidate for the Republican nomination as sheriff, an office once held by his father, the late Dr. William A. Mabie. He served as deputy sheriff during his father's incumbency. He served a number of years as constable in Turkey Creek Township, being very active in law-enforcement around Lake Wawasee. He had resided in Warsaw the past 16 years and was a member of the Christian church. The surviving relatives are two daughters, Mrs. Ralph Method, of Syracuse; Mrs. O.C. Daft, of Indianapolis; two sons, Eldred Mabie, of near Syracuse; Auldon Mabie, of Warsaw; one brother Thomas A. Mabie of Kansas City, Mo; and one sister Mrs. L. F. Hazel, of South Bend. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, 2 p.m. at the Landis funeral home, Rev. A.V. Hayes of the Christian church, will have charge of the service, and burial will be made in North Webster cemetery.6

The body was in an upright position in a chair. It is believed he died the night before of a heart attack. Mr. Mabie was born near North Webster, Aug 31, 1877, the son of William A. and Catherine Mabie. Several years ago he was a candidate for the Republican nomination as sheriff, an office once held by his father, the late Dr. William A. Mabie. He served as deputy sheriff during his father's incumbency. He served a number of years as constable in Turkey Creek Township, being very active in law-enforcement around Lake Wawasee. He had resided in Warsaw the past 16 years and was a member of the Christian church. The surviving relatives are two daughters, Mrs. Ralph Method, of Syracuse; Mrs. O.C. Daft, of Indianapolis; two sons, Eldred Mabie, of near Syracuse; Auldon Mabie, of Warsaw; one brother Thomas A. Mabie of Kansas City, Mo; and one sister Mrs. L. F. Hazel, of South Bend. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, 2 p.m. at the Landis funeral home, Rev. A.V. Hayes of the Christian church, will have charge of the service, and burial will be made in North Webster cemetery.5

Born September 12, 1905, in Warsaw, he was the son of Bert and Emma Lloyd Mabie. On April 22, he married Phyllis Miller, who died in 1950. Seven years later, on the 12th of January, he married Florence Foster; she survives.
A lifetime Syracuse-area resident, he owned and operated the former Star Clothing Store in Syracuse, and Milford Shoe and Clothing. Mr. Mabie was also a farmer and a member of Kosciusko County Farm Bureau.
Surviving in addition to his widow are one daughter, Mrs. Sally Brown; one son, Mr. Arthur Mabie of Lakeland, Florida; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.14 
Burial* He and Phyllis Bernice Miller were buried at Syracuse Cemetery, Syracuse, Kosciusko County, Indiana.15

A lifetime Syracuse-area resident, he owned and operated the former Star Clothing Store in Syracuse, and Milford Shoe and Clothing. Mr. Mabie was also a farmer and a member of Kosciusko County Farm Bureau.
Surviving in addition to his widow are one daughter, Mrs. Sally Brown; one son, Mr. Arthur Mabie of Lakeland, Florida; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.4

oObit*30 December 1898  On 30 December 1898 at Middletown, Orange County, New York, the obituary of John Mabee read: John Mabee died at 3:40 o'clock, this morning, at the home of his sister, Mrs Helen Hunt [sister Hester], on Greenwich Street, this village [Goshen]. He was seventy-seven years old and had been in failing health for some time, but did not take to bed until Wednesday. Besides Mrs Hunt, a brother and sister survive, whose homes are in Michigan.
The funeral will be held Monday at 10 a.m., at his late residence. Interment in the family plot on the homestead farm, near the Goshen reservoir.15 
Burial He was buried at Mabee Cemetery (on the Jacob Mabee Farm), Goshen Township, Orange County, New York. Inscription "John Mabee born Dec 11 1821, died Dec 30 1898."3
