oObit*  The obituary of Charles Rendell Mabey read: Special to the New York Times. "Charles Mabey, 81, Ex-Utah Governor". Salt Lake City, April 27, Charles Rendell Mabey, Governor of Utah from 1921 to 1925, died yesterday at his residence in suburban Bountiful. He was 81 years old. Mr. Mabey attended the University of Utah and later did additional work at the University of Chicago after the Spanish-American War had interrupted his education. During that war he served in the Philippine Islands campaigns of 1898 and 1899. Thirty years later he received a Silver Star for gallantry in action on May 14, 1899. After a brief career as a teacher, Mr. Mabey helped to found the Bountiful State Bank in 1906. He later became its president. He was elected to the State House of Representatives in 1912 for the first of two terms. After Army service in World War I, he was elected Governor. Active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he served as quorum instructor until his death. A former commander in the American legion, he held many national posts in that organization. Surviving are four sons, Rendell, Robert, Edward and Charles T. Mabey, four brothers and two sisters."14 
oObit  The obituary of Charles Rendell Mabey read: Charles graduated from the University of Utah in 1896 with a teaching certificate. During the next decade, he was a teacher and school administrator but also served a tour of duty in the Philippines during the Spanish-American War and spent three years as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Germany (1900-1903).
His public service included Justice of the Peace, City Councilman, and Mayor of Bountiful, and he was elected to two terms in the Utah House of Representatives. He was commissioned a Captain in the Artillery during World War I, completing active duty in December, 1918.
Elected governor two years later, he was a strong advocate of public education, and a large number of new schools were built during his gubernatorial administration. He also promoted new highway construction in Utah, utilizing federal grants and a gasoline sales tax. And it was at his recommendation that the state legislature approved Utah's participation in the Colorado River Compact. However, depressed economic conditions, combined with Mabey's record of spending for education and highways and his independent style in the face of Republican Party pressure, led to his defeat for reelection in 1924.
After leaving office, he remained active in business, civic, and church affairs, holding state and national positions in the American Legion and serving on the general board of the Young Mens Mutual Improvement Association of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.15 
Burial He was buried at Bountiful Memorial Park, Bountiful, Davis County, Utah. Inscription "Mabey; Charles Rendell; 1877 - 1959; Governor of Utah 1921 - 1925."16,15

Mabie, found rest at the homestead the 12th of November, 1902, after suffering a stroke of apoplexy. Her birth was chronicled November 26, 1856, at Mycenae, N. Y.
The devoted love of parents and sisters made her childhood a very happy one. The days came and went and she sought higher education, becoming a graduate of Houghton Seminary of Clinton, N.
Y. Not many months after, she was united in marriage to Allen H. Avery, Jr., of Manlius, N. Y , who survives her.
The crowning quality of Mrs. Avery's character, was her unselfishness. She lived to make glad the hearts of others. She had a brave, cheery way with her, and there was no one who came within the charmed circle of her acquaintance but who was made better. Her gentle ministry to the sick and suffering will not soon be forgotten. She loved her friends with an undying love, and her memory will be cherished in grateful hearts.
The last sad services were held at the home November 15th at two p. m., conducted by Rev. J. Mac L. Richardson of the Presbyterian church. He spoke tenderly of the departed and voiced the thought of every one present, while with warm, sympathetic words he commended the sorrowing ones to the dear Father in Heaven. Then were our hearts lifted on the waves of song to the "Holy City," and to the blessed companionship of the redeemed. The offering of many flowers showed the love and esteem in which the dear one was held. We bore her away to the quiet resting place—the Oakwood of Chittenango—and we hushed our sorrow while the Master's own words were given : "Let not your heart be troubled, in my Father's house are many mansions, I go to prepare a place for you." What could have been more comforting ?
Mrs. Avery leaves, besides a father and mother, three sisters : Miss Anna Mabie, Mrs. S. E Avery of Syracuse, and Mrs. Cyrus L. Tremper of Brooklyn. The sympathy of a large circle of friends is extended to the family, around whom the shadows have so closely gathered.5 
Death*27 July 1923 Allen Henry Avery died on 27 July 1923 at Buffalo, New York, at age 67.2 
Burial* He was buried at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Jamesville, Onondaga County, New York.2
