oObit* | 9 May 1929 | On 9 May 1929 at Stamford, New York, the obituary of Helen E Mabey read: Aged 27 years, Helen E. Bailey, wife of Howard Bailey of Mt. Jefferson, died at the Delhi Sanatarium, Thursday evening, May 2, 1929, and her body was laid to rest Sunday in the Jefferson cemetery, where the spring sunshine is kissing nature into new life and where May flowers are adorning the greensward with beauty. Before the open grave tear dimmed eyes gave expression of love and of esteem and sad hearts said the last goodbye to a mother who had closed her eyes on earth to awake in the beautiful summer land above. Nature, too, shed tears, for as the body was carried to its final resting place, rain drops from heaven fell upon the casket, symbolizing the great sorrow of many who had come to this parting of the of the ways. Helen's connection with the South Jefferson church dates from childhood. She was of a quiet disposition, possessed of a sympathetic heart, ambitious for her child, home, and for her Master's cause. She peacefully closed her eyes and bade farewell to home and friends and entered into rest. A little boy of three years is left without a mother and will miss her loving care. Besides her husband she leaves a mother, Mrs. Alice Mabey; a sister, Mrs. Andrew Zak of Cornell Hollow, and a brother, Fred Mabey, of South Jefferson. Their homes are lonely and sad today for mother, sister and wife is gone. Though the clouds may now seem dark and heavy, yet through the shadows opens a track of golden splendors when by faith we look forward to blessed immortality. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Ellsworth at the Bailey home at 11:15 Sunday morning.
