"At a candlelight, double ring service at 7 p. m. September 22, in North Presbyterian Church, Miss Mary Jane Oelkers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl L. Oelkers of 39 Pine Woods Drive became the bride of Lt. Gerald N. Mabey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray L. Mabey of Franklinville, N. Y. The Rev. G. Howard Mickelsen officiated.
The bride was attired in a white lace gown, princess style with a sweetheart neckline and long pointed sleeves. Her fingertip veil fell from a seed pearl tiara and she carried a shower bouquet of gardenias and pompons. She wore a pearl necklace, the gift of the groom.
Mrs. John W. Oelkers, the matron of honor, wore a dusty rose silk jersey gown, with full draped skirt, the bodice having sweetheart neckline and bracelet length sleeves. A shoulder length net veil fell from a dusty rose flower tiara. Her bouquet was of deep pink roses and white pom-poms. The maid of honor. Miss Ruth Richards of Lockport, and bridesmaid, Mrs. Henry Juul of Buffalo, were gowned alike in hyacinth blue silk jersey gowns, fashioned like that of the matron of honor. They wore matching shoulder length veils caught with flowers. Miss Richards carried a medium shade of pink roses and pom-poms, Mrs. Juul's bouquet was of light pink roses and pompoms.
George W. Mabey of Cuba, N. Y., acted as best man and Clifford Booth of Olean, Frederick Swift and Donald Witherall of Cuba and Robert Litchka of North Tonawanda were the ushers.
Mrs. Carl Oelkers, mother of the bride, wore a black dress with a blue vest and black hat trimmed with blue ostrich tips. Mrs. Mabey, the groom's mother, chose a black dress with pink trimming and a black hat with pink ostrich tips. Each wore a corsage of pink roses and delphinium.
A reception for 250 guests was held at the home of the bride. Out of town guests came from Daytona Beach, Fla., Canada, Olean, Cuba, Niagara Falls, Lockport and Buffalo.
The bride received her B.S. degree from Buffalo State Teachers College and has been a member of Cuba Central school faculty, Cuba, N. Y. Lt. Mabey served 38 months overseas with the Transportation Corps. He is a graduate of Cuba high school and Westbrook Academy at Olean, N. Y."4,5

Election Commissioner's Association. Professional Insurance Agent's Association of N. Y. and Independent Insurance Agent's Association of N. Y. He was pre-deceased by his brother, George W. Mabey. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane (nee Oelkers) Mabey, formerly of North Tonawanda: one son, Brian C. (Kathy) Mabey of Cuba: two daughters, Sue M. Johnson of Cuba and Mrs. John (Cindy) Bornhurst of Houston, Texas: five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Born in Belfast Oct. 6, 1914, she was a daughter of Harry B. "Kernel" and Harriet Tingley Chalker. On July 3, 1937, she married George W. Mabey who died Aug 26, 1985.
She was a resident of Cuba for many years and delivered Meals on Wheels and volunteered in t h e community for several years.
Mrs. Mabey was a graduate of the Belfast High School. She was a member of t h e First Baptist Church of Cuba and a life member of the McKee Chapter No. 212 Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are two daughters, Sandra K. Rork of Houston, Texas, and Harriet (Michael) Rapplean of Piano, Texas; a son, Raymond (Lek) Mabey of South Pattaya, Thailand; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, a sister, Helen Leilous of Belmont; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Linnie Waldorf; and two brothers, Howard Chalker and Harold Chalker.
Friends were received Tuesday at the Mclntosh Funeral Home (Nicholson Chapel), 24 Genesee Parkway, Cuba. Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, Dec. 5,2001) at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Larry A. Poelma, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated. Burial was in Cuba Cemetery, Cuba.11

(Witness) oObit He was mentioned in the obituary of Walter Totton Carpenter at Wayne County, Indiana; Death's fingers closed the eyes of a noble man and opened the portals of eternity when Walter Totton Carpenter crossed the valley of the Great Beyond at this home on West National Road, in the city of Richmond, Aug. 31, 1910. Had he lived until New Year's Day 1911 he would have reached the century mark of earth's existence and he was, perhaps, the oldest man in Wayne County. His was a life of usefulness. He was a prominent member of the Friends' Church and for fifteen years was superintendent of the boarding school which is now Earlham College. It was through his splendid administration that that institution was placed on a stable basis during the earlier years of its existence. He was a trustee of the college after resigning the superintendency and for many years was connected with the welfare of that institution in that capacity. Mr. Carpenter was the son of Jesse and Mercy Carpenter, and was born January 1, 1811 in Duanesburg, Schenectady County, New York. When four years of age his father and family moved to a farm in Clinton County, Ohio, five miles north of Wilmington and there a log cabin, which consisted of two rooms and a garret was the home of the parents and children for some time. Mr. Carpenter and Susanna Mabie were united in marriage in 1834 and soon thereafter removed to Cincinnati, where Mr. Carpenter was engaged at different times in the pork-packing silk and general merchandising business. While in Cincinnati he was warned by his physician that he had better buy a farm and live more nearly out of doors and that if he did not there was a great probability of his dying before the end of the year. Accepting the advice of his physician he settled on a farm near Clarksville, Ohio. This farm, which came to be known as the "White Planes" farm was soon made a model one for that time by Mr. Carpenter, by his unceasing energy and characteristic enterprise, and he raised only horses, sheep and cattle of the best stock. To give their children a better education was the purpose of the Carpenters' removal to Richmond in 1857. They had heard much about the Friends' Monthly Meeting School there and decided to remove to that city and give their children the advantages there obtainable. The next year Mr. Carpenter succeed Charles Atherton as superintendent of the school. . . . . .
Mr. Carpenter's wife died Sept. 30, 1908 and he is survived by three children - Charles G. Carpenter, Superintendant of the Richmond Roller Mills; Mrs. D. W. Marmon of Indianopolis and Mrs. H. C. Wright of Kokomo.2

(Witness) Anecdote The families of Mabey and Francisco and Carman intermarried quite a few times. Their property, which apparently adjoined each other, was on the Stoney Brook, at its beginning at the Pequanonk River. They lived on the South side (Morris County side), and their property is now the Main Street area of Butler New Jersey, including the old Manning Avenue Cemetery Earliest Map I have found them on, is Mrs. Francisco in 1851, residing on what is now present day Main Street Butler, at Short Street (which was a narrow lane passing the original Mabey home, going up to the old family Burial Ground, which was subsequently Deeded to the newly formed (1867) Bloomingdale Cemetery Association. Within the bounds of the current Cemetery, lay a parcel called the "old burial ground" where can be found the graves of the early Mabeys, Franciscos, Meads and Carmans, as well as the subsequent burials being in the newly formed portion. These original families are buried in the area closest to the original burial ground.
Jane Mabey Francisco inherited this land from her father, and she, dying Intestate while occupying the residence which also had a Hotel on the premises, left three adult children; viz: Jane Carman, Mary Smith, Emily Carman. A war broke out between the families, instituted by Mary Smith, against Henry and Emily Carman, who were in physical possession of the property, demanding a fair split of the property of their late mother. In the end, the property was ordered sold, and the buyer was William Edgar Carman, the son of Henry and Emily (Francisco) Carman. So basically, the property remained in the family. The original Mabey home is depicted in a Painting, which was made into Post Cards, and can be obtained from the Butler Historical Society.
Oddly in this family of John Francisco and Jane Mabey, there appears to have been some sort of illness that plagued just this family. Within 4 years, those residing in that Hotel and house, died, adults and children alike. The family just wiped out. Jane Mabey Francisco 1877; Jane Francisco Carman 1877; Emily Francisco Carman 1879; Mary F Carman 1879; Annie 1881, Ella 1881, RIchard; 1882, Henry Wallace Carman 1882; Henry C. Carman 1882. It was so odd, that it was written up in the Newspapers. Only two children survived to adulthood, John Pierson Carman (who md. Almira Mabey) and Hester Jane Carman, who married William Westervelt.2
